Eye-catching, Modernist, brass on copper pendant and screwback earring set, with enameled accents. All pieces are marked: "HOGAN BOLAS". While they were students at RISD in the late 1940's, Robert Hogan and Deborah Bolas started and successfully ran a small jewelry business in Rhode Island until it was sold in 1992. They produced jewelry designs in copper and brass using a mixture of hand and machine work. They very successfully produced and sold thousands of pieces of enameled jewelry for more than a decade. Dramatic, heavy sterling silver cuff bracelet adorned with two natural mineral specimens. The purple is assumed to be amethyst. The other is a dark, fairly transparent green, possibly moldavite, a natural glass. The rocks are attached with 14K gold wire and there are four 14K gold ball decorations. She was an art and physical education teacher in the Waverly, Iowa public schools and at the Metairie Park Country Day School, New Orleans. She was a jewelry instructor at Emma Willard School, Troy, New York and at the Fletcher Farm Crafts School, Ludlow,Vermont. After 1955 she taught jewelry making at the Birchkill Arts and Crafts Guild in Troy. Boothby sold her work from her workshop in Weston, Vermont. The pin is marked: "STERLING, fhb ". Geometric design with turquoise cabochon accent. IHMSS stands for Indian Hand Made Sterling Silver. The initials DMY, according to the book "Hallmarks of the Southwest"' by Barton Wright, are the marks of Dick Mike Yazzie. The book says he is Navajo/Hopi and that he is a Silversmith/Kachina/Carver. Specializes in shadowbox pieces and miniature kachina. The W is the mark for Woodard's Indian Arts.
